Took the oil pump out today. Noticed the shaft that is turned by the distributor was loose, could be wiggled. This is only the 2nd oil pump I have taken out of an engine, so I'm not sure if its supposed to do that or not. I don't think it does... Can someone give me an Amen on that?

 

Shouldn't do that... get another one. Just get a plain old regular $10 M55, a new screen (55-S IIRC), intermediate shaft with the steel collar instead of the plastic POS (IS-55E or one from Moroso or ARP), and the Mr Gasket #26 pressure spring. Less than $30, all new, the best you can put in a stock motor.
