block numbers questions
trying to find out if an engine in a TA is a 305 or 350. The engine is tpi and supposedly converted from 305 to 350 but I can't tell just from looking. I was under the engine and on each side of the block there are the numbers 627. Does this mean anything? I thought the block number would be like 7 digits or something. Can anyone tell me exactly where to find the block number and how to tell if the engine is a 350 after I've found the number? Thanx.

We need to know what the casting number is first.
There "might" be a number cast into the block saying 5.0L or 5.7L but not always. You can't make a 305 into a 350 so if it says 5.0L then it's a 305.

thanx for the help. I did look at the casting number. I can make out a "GM 5. L G" on the back of the block behind the driver's side head. I can't make out whether it says 5.7 or 5.0, looks like the second digit has been scratched with something. Maybe an attempt to scratch it off. Thanx again.

You already posted the one number that tells all, which was the 627. That's the last 3 digits of the block casting number. It's all you need to know.
You have a 305. No further research is required.
