Car dies while driving

My car keeps dying while I am driving down the road. Its happened a couple of times now. I am just going alond and bam it dies. I just roll along without the engine running. All I have to do is pop it in neutral turn the key and it starts again no problem. I just changed the fuel filter so I know that it shouldn't be clogged.

I know I know.... happened to my '89 TA with 350 engine..

It's the ECM computer board... Had my original and 2nd replaced
already.... believe I'm on my 3rd one now...
Went to GM dealer and they warranted the 2nd one but
I paid sadly for 3rd one (Cost about $600 or $800)
(sorry for bad news).... really s*cks!!!!!!!!!!

I had exact same symptoms you described...

I'm shocked that no one (yet) and not gotten tons of replies
to this since I think it would be quite well known and common....

I really think with the Firebirds/TAs (at least my car and experience).... Engine HEAT is a KILLER for reliability of our cars !!!

Heat soak I think killllled this expensive ECM part now twice and
I have the same well-known problem of bad starting (sometimes)
especially in summer months after some driving and the starter or solenoid gets balky and moody and the car won't start until ya pop the hood and let the damn thing cool off for a while....

NOT TOO GOOD!

It is always possible that you have the worse case scenario, but I'd suggesting looking closely at the ignition system.

I had the same kind of thing happening with cheap aftermarket ignition modules.

Of all things I went with and Accel and have absolutely zero problems since.

Had the same thing happen with my 92 Grand ****** after I changed the alt.......and then the alt went out. After I found a good altenator the problem was never more........I dunno why, but it hasn't happened since.

I'd say it's tune up time at the very least. Sometimes just checking everything you'll find a number of problems that combined can cause problems.
