Popping noise.

The RS camaro im looking into buying makes a popping noise at high rpms. It sounds to me like no backpressure. That would explain both the popping and its somewhat poor performance.

It has a new muffler, but it looks like the cats/pipes may be rusted. Am I correct in my assumption?

What else could cause low back pressure?

No such thing as "not enough back pressure".

More likely, it's an ignition miss, and the unburned fuelk getting lit off in the exhaust.

Are you sure , I mean it's mentioned a lot on the exhaust board, but it just can't be beat into their heads, lol. Course I can't remember half the crap five7kid told me about it.

Do yourself a favor and pay a mechanic at some gas station $60 to run a compression test and a pressure test on the cooling system. It's not their car, so they'll likely tell you the truth about it. Best money I ever spent back in the day.

..Or better yet, i'll insist that the dealership runs a compression test on it before I buy it.

It runs pretty good, so im at a loss as to whats happening to it. Hopefully I'll find out soon.

Rs woes.

Low back pressure? I have heard of high back pressure as in the converters being no good..clogged..but low pressure? Take it to a shop and have it looked at before buying..better to be safe then sorry..

well if the pipe/cat is rusted they may have holes which leak, leaking is no good.. get that fixed first..
