Cam Change

So far i have the following modson my 305:
K& N Air Open Air Filter
80 series flowmaster and
edelbrock performer (EGR), and a rebuilt q-jet.
I intend to swap in a camshaft (204-214) after I port my heads and ad 1.9 valves.
What I am wondering is am i going to need a chip or need to burn my chip?
Also what hangers and rods will work best on my q-jet carb?

If your planning to use this cam with a cc q-jet system
You'll likely be fine. The computer only controls the car during part throttle closed loop operation. Full throttle is controlled by the rods, stepup spring and hangers just like a non cc qjet.
As long as the car drives fine at part throttle and cruise, no adjustment or chip tweeking is really nessessary.

This cam is not big enough to cause a problem with the computer.
But if you presently have a low compression ratio 305 you would want to raise the compression ratio up to close to 10:1 to get the best out of this new bigger than stock cam. Just like on the Factory high perf 305HO motors.
Other than that, it is a good choice.

With the mods above, which cam would be better suited for my a daily driver:
Cam A 204 - 214 with .420 - .443 lift and 112 seperation
or
Cam B 209 - 209 with .414 - .414 lift and 110 Seperation?
Does one pose an advantage over another?

In all reality they are going to be real close.
Cam A is a tried and true performer. I would go with it and consider using 1.6 rockers on the intakes if I was getting rockers.
The push rod slot in the head may need to be elongated towards the stud for the 1.6 ratio.

The lift specs would then be .447in. .443 ex.
