Dumbest question ya ever heard........
Dumbest question ya ever heard........
Okay, I finally got the engine installed in my truck, a 1988 Silverado 4x4. I drove it to the shop where I did the swap, everything worked fine.
Now, after reinstalled everything the way it was, I get power to the distributor, but no fire from the distributor. Have power to the coil, also.
Replaced the ignition control module after it checked out as defective, put a new coil on, new cap and rotor, new plug wires. Only I did not change out was the pickup coil.......actually, I tried, but ended ruining that distributor when the bushing came out with the shaft.
Got another distributor from a running car, installed the new parts (module, cap, rotor), put it in.........still no fire to the plugs.
I know part of the distributor is functioning correctly, as the injectors fire when the distributor is hooked up.
The only thing that is different electrically from before the engine swap is that I repaired a melted knock sensor lead, and hooked it up.
Any ideas at all as to why I am not getting spark from the distributor now?
I am about to give up and just put my old HEI in and use a carb. I need the truck up and running and don't want to pour more money into this without fixing it.
Thanks in advance...........

Presuming this is from a 350 TBI, you should have a four-wire flat connector between the distributor and wiring harness. This is described on the VECI label under the hood as what should be disconnected to set the base timing. If your truck has this connector and the VECI directions indicate it should be disconnected to set timing, disconnect the connector and try to start it again. This should take the ESC completely out of the circuit and eliminate any potential problems with it.
I'm thinking you may have damaged the ESC and it is grounding your primary signal.
