HELP! Key broke off in gas cap lock

How can I get the key out or just get the whole cap off so I can buy a normal one without a lock?

Soory but i can not help you directly. I would recomend calling a lock smith and ask them. The reason i responded to your post was because i want to know where you got the locking gas cap? Is it the door or the cap inside of the door? Just curious, thanks for your time and good luck with the situation-Bryan

id say just get teh cap off and buy another locking gas cap. Not worth the hassle to call a locksmith or f' around trying to get the key out.

You can get the cap off with a big pair of ChannelLocks. Just squeeze the cap and twist it and it usually comes right off.

It should be easy to break with your hand. I've had to do it before when I've lost my key, and needed gas.
Just turn it in the off direction. Break the locking ring thingy, pull the top part off, and turn the inside as if it was a regular cap. It won't take much muscle.
A new one isn't expensive either.
Come to think of it, they're not really great gas anti-theft devices. I'm sure a 10 year old could take my gas.

So then WTF? The reason i told him to call someone is b/c it is not supossed to open like that if it is "locking"! I guess not huh. What do i know, obviously i have no reason for knowing b/c i am asking where to find one. Does anyone know, dimented, do you know where to get one? You make it sound so easy! If thats the case, does anyone know where to find the locking door? Placed an ad a while ago but no one responded! thanks

Try Wal Mart...Autozone, Pepboys, or your local car parts store. Any of them should have it. BTW...this is for the cap lock, not a locking door...

Thanks! I'll look around. I have never seen them in person in a store but then again i was never really searching for them. I'll even try asking the guys over at Pep-boys if they can get a locking door. Calling up junk yards would be good too since some thirdgens had them, so i have heard. I would rather have that then to spend money on something that can still be opened! Kinda defeats the purpose.

Hey 86IROCNJ they sell them at NAPA for about $20,I checked when I got my normal one today. The pliers worked.I didn't have the channel lock one though,I used a smaller one and grabbed the part you twist and the top part and it came right off. Thanks for the help and now I know how to break into to a gas cap!Might come in handy some day.

Really, NAPA sells locking doors? Is that what you just got? I like how they have locking caps that you can just break into. Real nice! Thanks for the help-Bryan
