thick intake gaskets to help alignment?

just a quick question for ya,

is it a common practice to use thicker intake gaskets to help align intake ports on the inatake to the heads if the intake ports on the intake seem too low by about a 1/16th or a hair more lower than the head ports.

or would this raise the distrubuter too high and throw off the distributer gear to cam gear mesh and screw with timing or cause distributer gear wear or oil pump shaft enguagement problems.
