Trying to decide......

Hey all!!

I'm trying to decide what aftermarket intake to buy. I'd like to get something that will reasonably adapt to what I have now, but also use on a 383 later on.

My engine setup is in my sig. I do plan on getting a Hooker catback exhaust also. The powerband for the cam I have starts at 2500 rpm's I think. Any suggestions from you gearheads appreciated!!!!

Try a Weiand X-celerator 7546 or 7547 for low rise

You can make it have EGR. not very hard, from what I've heard.

There is also a Weiand Action Packer intake with EGR I noticed. Check that to see if it'll suit your needs.

I was considering getting a Weiand X-celerator, but I see no provisions for my vacuum tower on the front of my intake. I like the 1500-6500 range it has, and since it's a single plane, I would think it would respond well when I wind it out, wouldn't you think??

Or does the other Weiand Stealth has more provisions drilled into it?? I can't tell by the pics. I know someone on this board has to have one of these intakes. Thanks for the replies....keep em com'in!!!

I have the Weiand Action Plus intake and it seems to be pretty good. Slightly less rpm range than the Stealth. I believe you can get it with or without egr and your cc quad will bolt right to it.

Ohhhhh....The Action PLUS intake....

You threw me for a loop with the Action Packer thing. I thought maybe you guys were trying to make a crack on the fact that I'm in Green Bay Packer territory!!

Yea, I've looked at the Action Plus, but it seems to be one of the milder intakes, but I don't know for sure. I like the fact that my Q-jet will bolt right up though.

The reason I was looking at the accelerator so hard was because of the RPM range (1500-6800), which appears to be a better match with my cam. Do you think??

Anyways, that may be a moot point if my Q-jet won't bolt up to it, along with other connections. Anyone else???

I have an Action Plus on my 305 L69. I have an edelcrap 600 carb, a Comp Cams XE 262 cam, roller rockers and other junk..blah blah blah, anyhow, I am very pleased with the intake. I'd buy it again anyday.

One thing I noticed is that if I went with a larger intake, even a little bigger I would have to have such a small filter that I would lose power b/c it would be too constricted.

I'd suggest it anyday. I can't say over the Stealth or not, but I rev to 6,000 rpm easily, no problems at all.

Besides, it's a big "YAWN" to open a hood and see all Edelcrap in there. Although, I have to laugh at myself, I have edelcrap carb and valve covers...............but only because I had little money at the time and they were the cheapest I had available at the time.

Hey Gruveb -

That's good info....

Good point. I'd like to keep the duel snorkle on mine. I plan to buy a 2 1/4 inch cowl hood in the near future, but not really for clearance issues- just cause I like how it looks.

Still using the computer myself. Not a big fan of Edelbrock carbs though. I had a performer years ago on my 72 Charger, and I couldn't tune it right to save my a**.
But I hear many people like them here. Glad to hear you like the intake. We have somewhat simular setups - but could you tell me if it has enough vacuum ports, like for the tower up near the T-stadt housing?
BTW.....first it was the Packer thing, and now the blah, blah thing like in my sig?? Or am I just paronoid?
