Not totally sure, only bad thing being a truck motor, it will prolly have very low compression.

I assume most truck engines came with dished pistons, if so, changing them would be one of the best ways, also getting a lower cc head. Like from a 305 if you're tight on cash.

that would probably work out well then because i am swapping for a 305, so if i ported the 305 heads and put new valves and springs in the 305 heads would this work?

I don't see why not, long as you don't have L03 heads you'll be fine.

Follow the porting directions in SittingBull's sig.

or here is a helpful link.

What year is the truck? Before I'd start tearing into it I'd figure out what you have exactly.

Mark is probably right though, they usually had very low compression.

79 isn't a banner year I'm sure. I don't know the exact numbers, but I'm sure they're not too exciting.

Doesn't matter anyway. If the engine is cheap it doesn't matter as long as it is usable.

Car, truck, doesent really matter compression wasent whoopty in most cars or trucks 73+. Remember having high compression doesent always mean high HP, it just means every time you fill up you pay more for fuel. If I remeber correctly my 76 CA truck was actully the highest rated 350 with a whoping 175/180HP. The same rule as any engine, heads, cam induction and exhuast = HP But this isnt a bad platform to start from.
