LT1 cam help
You can run the factory LT1 cams in a stock '92 case without changing anything else. You cannot use the LT4 or LT4 "Hot" cam with stock springs from your '92, however.
And just because it will work, that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. The slightly better cam profile is going to expose the weakness of the stock springs even more, so changing to better springs and lightweight spring retainers will make the most of the change. Remove the exhaust valve rotators and discard them, regardless of what you do with the springs. I'd also suggest changing to screwed rocker studs while you're at it. the new springs (GMPP 12495494 - Oval wire LT4 springs $35.95/set of 16), retainers (GMPP 12495492 - LT4 lightweight $15.54/set), valve retainer key set
(GMPP 12495503 10° locks $6.83/set) and screwed studs (Mr.Gasket 1076 $26.95) can cost as little as $80.00 to complete the cam swap if you do the work yourself.
It would probably be better to go with aftermarket springs, but using the factory performance parts would be a safe step at a minimum.

Since you seem to know alot about this vader, how about the LT1 cam in a TPI 350 with 1.6 rollers? Any more issues there? I need a new engine and this is one of the upgrade options on it. I'm doing it because it'll cost me $100 total for the roller rockers and the LT1 cam. And it'll be covered under the 7 year/70,000 mile warrenty.

Just read an article that said the LT1 cam wasn't a good choice for our cars. Or that it wouldnt provide much extra. I can't find any definitive specs on teh LT1 cam. I found the lift figures, but it didn't list the duration figures. Which is the better cam? L98 or LT1.
Thanks for you help, I can see where you get all of those posts.

fruity one - did you read my post? i did exactly what you are asking about. right down to the fact that our cars are identical. except for year and interior. not a good choice? maybe i'm missing something here. i thought 13.835 @ 97.52 was pretty good. vader has a chart on the board posting all the different cam specs. compared to the l98 cams, the LT1 cam has less duration for the most part. but, the LT1 cam has more lift. so, the LT1 cam has a faster ramp speed. which means quicker cylinder filling. now it might not be the best choice, but not a bad choice by any means.

all the way at the bottom is the cam specs for l98

and here is a thread with the lt1 cam chart.

Cool then. I doubt my car will run a high 13 with just the LT1 cam and the 1.6 rollers though. I'd probably be around 15's because I have some crappy tires on there. Not only are they crappy, but their about ready for replacement in about 5,000 miles I'd guess.
Plus I've never really driven a car with any decent power before. The closest I came was driving a Viper GTS. ^_^ Belonged to my mother's friend. Crap THAT was power. They also have a C5 vette, and a 73' vette. He's a doctor. I'll have to get pics of them next summer when the cars are out of storage.
My car probably won't be broken in by the time Thirdgen nationals 2003 rolls around. Nor will I have the money for decent new tires. :*( Gonna cost me a bit just for the engine.
