350 Dilemma

Hey guys, I figured if anybody could give me some good advice on this, it would be you.
Im shopping for a 350, and like the GM Goodwrench LM1, and the 350/300HP at www.allchevyengines.com . Would like to run around 300 HP, but not sure which one would be the best buy, im not averse to modding the GM, but would like to keep it cost efficient. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Rob

I have the LM-1 or well had I guess, LOL, new cam and heads.

First off the weak parts, dished pistons and crappy compression.
Heads aren't the best either, cam just plain sucks.

To make 300 hp in it, you'll definately need a new cam, full exhaust. That would be the mininum, it may take a little more, I'm not sure.

But it does come with a 3yr /50k mile warranty, all new 4bolt block.

Full exhaust isnt a prob, that was planned on. Cam swap might be difficult, but ill do some homework. Thanks for the input.

If you want a 300+/- horse motor like the GM 350 330hp HO
buy one.
Don't buy a 205 hp base motor and try to soupe it up.
It will cost you more in the long run.
Or buy a good base like a ZZ4 short block and add good heads to it. Like Vortecs or something.

Just to let you konw about the stock cam, is basically a truck replacement motor, designed to pull on the low end, I think the cam stops power around 3500 or, that's what I was told.

Yeah, the 330 HO would be nice. I wouldnt mind ending up with that. I just have to justify putting $3000 worth of engine in $800 worth of camaro.

Excellent advice, thank you guys. Looks like the carb will be no problem then. The only thing that pisses me off is that im working in the middle east, and I wont see the car for at least 9 months. But im gonna have a hell of a shopping list by the time I do.
