ok, im kind of interested in these 2 IROC'S and i was wondering what you guys think...
heres the first one
http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/v...&car_year=1989

now..
the second one is in the ads, and its been in there about 2-3 weeks it says "89 camaro IROC, new 5.7 engine, AFR heads, Bigger Intake, Runners, 52mm tb, kn, msd, slp headers, 3.23 posi, 5-speed, 5,000$ for car or 3500 for engine w/out car

soo i dont know, im think im going to call both of the guys and check both of them out. but, im definitly feeling the one in the papers...so yea..any input guys

oh..and my moms BF is a mechanic and he says that buying a car with mods is bad, he says that they could have been put in wrong or they arnt smog legal (even though the new engine isnt, but i can get around smog)....anyways, hes kind of freaking out about why the guy is selling the engine, he more worried about the exterior than the engine, which i guess is cool. but i mean, these mods dont sound very complicated...i mean, besides, hes a mechanic! and most of them are bolt ons! i dont know, sometimes i feel like whatever i want just has to be a no, but maybe thats the normal teenager feeling

Either would be sweet, check 'em out.

By the way, your sig pic doesn't work because you can't just link to an image on your hard drive, it has to be on some webspace on the 'net somewhere.

if its a 350 and a 5 speed its obviously not stock...no 350s came with a 5 speed stock (too much torque...would keep up with the vettes of those years)...and the other one says it has 4 wheel disc brakes....someone can correct me if im wrong but isnt that the G92 option...if so id check out the one in the paper and see if it has 4 wheel disc brakes as well...if it has drums its still good..but id rather go with the autotrader ad...sounds reasonable...looks nice as hell...cant go wrong with a box...sounds very legit...he has receipts and sounds like its properly maintained for 123,000 miles...go to each of them with 4 grand cash and make the offer...let them think then say well i have another one im looking at anyway and start to walk away...no doubt youll get it for the 4 grand...money talks bs walks

thx alot guys, but im still trying to convince my moms BF, he can be stubborn sometimes, do any of you have any hints as a way to convince him, cuz he all freaked out about modded cars, like if they were installed right. If i cant convince him, i wont be able to get the car since my mom is looking for his approval and she wont let me spend MY money on a "crappy" car.
hmm facism at home

I'm with the BF here. It's someone else's work, you're taking a risk if you don't know them. I wouldn't buy a modded car that I couldn't at least test drive first.

Well, tell him that all of those mods are bolt on and not internal engine mods. It is HARD to screw up a bolt on part! It either fits or doesn't.

Take him for a ride in it and scrutinize the receipts. If anything bolted on is screwy it should make itself evident with a good test drive.

It sounds like a decent Camaro to me, but mom or dad is boss when you are in school and living at home. It was the same for ALL of us, if that is any consolation

If you were my kid, the thing that I'd be concerned about is you starting out with a 13 second car. With little driving experience that is more dangerous than you think. That is a LOT of car

When I was in high school my aunt used to let me take her 1969 Pontiac Parisienne 2 door hardtop with a 396 4 barrel to school once in a while. I got myself in a few hairy predicaments with that car, let me tell you! It had hp and torque that would make your hair stand on end and I got to fishtailing a few times.

Either of those Camaros would probably walk all over the 396. Thus my concerns.

well, first off
yea, i know what my mom and her BF says goes, besides, i take whatever he says very serious considering hes basically a father to me..BUT he is a mechanic, and yes, it would be horrible if somthing went wrong, but hes a mechanic!! and ive put in plenty of hours helping him restore his 70 chevy short bed truck into a street rod so he can help me do minor work!

anyways, ive been driving since i was 16, im 18 now and ive had the same car with no accidents or tickets, i am a good driver!! really!

and now and then i get to drive my friends 94 T/A

Our thirdgen club just lost a 19 year old kid that we loved a lot. He drove his 1989 GTA L98 into a brick wall at about 90 mph, killing the two young fellows he had with him, too.

I'm 44 now and was a teenager with a 68 Camaro at one time. I did knuckleheaded things that I'd never do now. Two years of driving experience ain't a lot. The immortality syndrome of youth dies a hard death.

So please keep any racing you do to the track. There are enough dead teenagers in this world and we'd ALL hate to read about you like that

Sermon is over. Hey, ask G0D to help you with this car business. He'll steer you straight and if he figures you can handle a hot Camaro responsibly, he'll help you get a good one

good to hear that you dont want to get your car impounded but a lot of us on this forum (theoretical street racing) said the same about not street racing...trust me once you get in the seat of a thirdgen...even if its a 16 second Trans Am (hahaha 86MattTA just kidding)...or even if its a Mercury Topaz XR5 (hahahah)...youll want to race if the oppurtunity exists...go and talk to the auto trader guy...it sounds legit...oh yeah and watch out for car insurance...dont blow all your money on a car and have none left for insurance....just like i did...now im thirdgenless... but i do have a decent beretta...just has a lot of miles....oh yes if you also wanted to mod a camaro....dont spend 4-5 grand on one...you can find a decent thirdgen for less than 2 grand...out here anyway:lala: :lala:
