If the shortblock is in good shape (rings, bearings) then it is worth putting in a cam, doing the heads and a set of headers.
i would be happy with around 400hp
i woukd be happy to get 400 hp out of my motor after im done putting money into it.
should i do this with a 305 or should i save up and buy a 350

400 hp would require Nitrous on a 305. Go 350.
L69 Camaros are not very rare. It is not a collector piece.

Whats your 0-60/ and 1/4 mile goal?? Not predetermined HP, the 305 H.O. is a good engine.

That can be a dangerous question around here! This is an issue of common debate! You're gonna basically get a few answers:
No replacement for displacement
It'll cost much more to get the same power level from a 305.
305's are boat anchors.
305's are great.
I've seen a lot on this debate!
Etc......
My opinion, the 305 is a pretty good engine. I have the LG4 (slow) version in my car, and it is fine for a driver. Now what I really don't like is that my Intrepid with a 2.7 in it would most likely whip all over it (reason for putting a 350 in mine, plus I don't drive my camaro much).
What it boils down to is how much you want to spend, will you be driving it everyday, and that sort of thing. One thing though, if you do start bolting on a bunch of stuff, most all of it will work if you ever do decide to go with a 350. A few exceptions are header primary tube sizes, carb, and that sort of thing.
Hope I help!

here....
Is an easy answer to your question: (I'm sure you have all heard this)
How fast do you want to go and how much $ money $ do you want to spend????
Figure that out and it'll make it much easier for all of us to help you out.
I have 2 305's that run very well, but I am gonna yank one here shortly in favor of a 355.

i was acualy thinking about saving up for a blower and a 150 hp shot of nitus
yeah i was actualy pondering with keeping this powerplant being its already3/4 chrome and putting a blower on it and a 150 hp shot kit in the end what will a good blower cost me {a loud one} and a 150 hp shot kit. this is realy what i want to do. ill have the money to do it so it not a prob but this sint till next year. so all in all how much will the blower cost and the nos kit that wat i want to know and about how much hp should i be putting out with this set up.

Keep in mind that all the chrome stuff will still work on a 350, besides, a new engine will be clean and the chrome will look even better!

.
BTW, I run with 350's all day long in my 84' L69.
Sure you CAN make the 350 faster for less money, but that only applies if you already have both motors and the cost for the blocks doesn't count. Since he already has a L69, not a 350, I say work with that. 13's N/A are not that hard at all.

I should correct something I said earlier. A 1986 L69 Camaro IS rare, less than 100 made.
