Mechanical advance distributor (no vacuum) POS?

I just found a Mallory Mec advance distributor from a fNord 390 at the pick & pull for $15, looks brand spank me new. I nabbed it and am going to give it to my brother for Xmas. This dual point setup does not have a vacuum advance its all mechanical. Would this be better then the stock vacuum advance distributor he currently has??? Were going to build this engine up in the spring and fNords need all the help they can get as we all know.

Wouldn't be a good choice for a street-driven vehicle, but not bad for track-only.

Electronic trigger is still much better.

Thanks for the reply. I noticed in Jegs they do sell an electronic trigger conversion for these distributors. If were were to convert it would it be a good distributor for a weekend cruiser?

Thanks!

Without vacuum advance, I'd still say so-so. For the track, where you spend signficant time at WOT, that's it's real element.
