mustang guy thinking about getting a camaro... convince me!

I currently have a 88 LX 5.0... I love it more then anything else i own. It's ran a best of 12.9 in the 1/4 mile (previous owners time).
If you wanna check it out: http://www.cardomain.com/id/speedadikted

Anyway, I think I'm gonna have to sell it. I dont want to, but I can afford to fix it all the time. I dont wanna come here saying fords are crap, theyre good cars... it's just so hard finding a clean fox anymore

Aaaaanyway... My stang is pretty fast, so naturally I'm gonna want another fast car. Right now I'm pretty much set on a 3rd gen camaro. now I got some questions for the experts:

How much will it cost me to get a clean 3rd gen? I want one with a 350. Is this hard to find?

Knowing that all the 350s came with autos... how hard/expensive is a 5spd swap?

Can the heads/intake be ported as easily as the ford 302 motors? How much does a decent port job usually cost?

And what are the biggest bang for you buck mods that people usually do first? Kinda stuff I could do with the money I'll have left over after selling my stang, and buying a clean camaro

thanks a lot guys:rockon:

well man i gotta say, you picked a good car to go with first of all. let me just say that out of any other cars ive ever owned or seen, my camaro and my friends camaro never break down, no matter how much beating i give them! as far as price goes, i say you could easily find a 350 camaro in near mint shape for around 6grand depending on milage and year, the 1990-92's were a little bit pricyer than the older ones. as far as mods go, i would say lt1 or ls1 intake and heads, slp headers and exhaust, and if you have the cash, vortec supercharger, strut tower bar, subframe connectors, torque arm, torque converter, and some wide tires. and those things done to a 350 camaro should get you into the 12's easily as long as you hook up good. just my 2 cents though

oh, around here, a manual swap is over to the 6 speed or the tremec tko. The b/w t-5s just arnt strong enough for the 350's. A nice tpi with some minor mods will do low 14's or possibly high 13's and the motor will last you a while if it has less then a 100k and its been well maintained. Some of the tpi's also came with the 9-bolt rears which are pretty good and they usually come with good ratios but i have a 9-bolt off a 1le that has 2.77's in it so youll want to check waht gears the car comes with. Overall, youll be more then happy if you find one with decent miles and good gears.

Well, stock a 5.7 is good for mid 14s. Get a new cam, gears, higher stall and at least some head work, should satisfy you for "now"

Get complete exhaust first, I'd go Hooker all the way from headers to cat-back. SFC's would be a good investment too since you're aiming for some quick times.

I'd expect to pay around minimum of $4k for a 5.7 around the 100k mile area and in decent shape.
