in need of some opinions on parts

The time has come for me to order the parts for my engine. I just want to hear what people have to say, and what they think I should change. I am gonna order some parts from Summit, and some from Jegs(im poor so i have to order the cheapest parts i can find). I am totally open to any suggestions and knowledge, I really dont want to screw this up.

Lunati cam pt. # 00011LK 285*/285* duration
.455"/.455" lift

Comp valve springs .490 max lift 1.25" outer dia.

Summit 1.6 roller tip rockers (i would like full rollers, but dont want aluminum, and dont have money for anything more)

fully ported and polished 081 heads, 1.94/1.5 valves, screw in studs

Weiand Stealth intake, dont know what carb I want yet

Do I need anything else, like guide plates, pushrods, etc.?? any suggestions or changes i need to make will be very helpful!!
Thanks in advance

that lift is probably with 1.5 rockers , ck. and see what lift will be w/1.6 rockers . 490lift springs might be close to coil bind with those rockers

that cam lift is with 1.5 rockers. with 1.6 it is .485 valve lift. Do you think that is too close to coil bind??

Those Comp 981 springs don't coil-bind at .490". They'll work OK with that cam (mild, acutally) and those particular rockers. They're still just stamped sheet metal, so they're plenty rubbery enough to take many thousandths of "theoretical" lift out of the equation. I believe I would be willing to eat them, if the actual measured valve lift out of that combination was found to exceed .465".

For a budget street build, those parts should be OK, in a 350. If this is a 305, you might want to drop the cam duration spec a notch, while still keeping as much lift as possible. Any more than 220° @ .050" on the intake is going to make it have a very soggy leave and bottom end.

opps, forgot to mention that this is a 350 +.040. I also have a 2200 stall, and a 3.42 rear.

the parts list is ok, but wouldn't use that cam if it was free myself.

i believe i put that same cam in a 350 i built a few years ago for someone, great street cam for mild preformance up grade. you'd want to buy retainers to match your springs and trash the factory parts.

that cam is on the rather older technology system of cams and doesn't have the faster ramps of the xe series or some of the crane's. it'll make for a decent street cam, but not the best choice for the set up and when it comes to the cam, it's one of the very most important choices.

That Lunati cam being @ 230deg duration @ .050" really needs a high stall converter and more gear.

If you're going with a 2200 stall, pick a cam with less duration.

like a Summit # 1103 K-1103 w/ lifters. cheaper too.

use 1.6 rockers on the intake side.

Or a Comp hi energy 268H-10.

You'll get a better overall torque curve and only 5/10 HP less at the peak. Either of these cams are a better match overall.

Cam the motor for torque and let the ported heads make the power.

Don't worry, these cams will pull strong to 5500 and rpm to 6000.
