I need help with my friend's F*rd
(please don't flame me too bad, I diden't know where elts to post this, also excuse my absance from the bords, I been on 12 hr shifts.) A good friend (read really cute friend that I'd like to go out with) has a F*rd ranger(I told her to get a chevy but she dosent have the money) she recently got into a car accedent with it, in wich her breaks locked up (she dosen't know weather it was the front or the back) in the rain (wich it dosen't do verry much out hear), according to her she let go of the pedel and they remained locked up and she slid into an intersection where she was T-boned, the Las vegas Metro cop that responded to the accedent gave her a ticket for running a red light. I tried to look information to see if there's a history on the internet but all the web sites about any recalls seem to be deleted execpt the NTSB site and that dosent help. Dose anyone know what could have caused them to stay locked up, and if there any TSB out on this.
it's a 2wd with a 5spd I'm not sure what year it is but it's the mid to late 90's body style. Thanks in advance

broken parts, such as return springs will cause the back to lock as will excessive amounts of brake dust. far as i know there isn't much that would cause the front disk to stay locked except a piston that stick out and doesn't retract a bit.

thanks for the reply, she said this is isen't the firdt time this happend. I was thinking along the lines of what happpend to my camaro, the rubber lines swelled with age? or somthing like that and caused the fluid to be pressurized enough to be let into the caliper but not let out, the thing is, her truck is too new for that, right?

The only recall I recall on the Explorer's for brakes (because I have one) is for the booster...apparently it'll rupture...and we all klnow what happens when we havbe no vacuum assit in our brakes...lock up is not an issue
If for some reason the water module, then the ABS will immediately cease, and a normal braking system will occur...I've tested this on my '94 (same as '91-94).
If for any reason the module isn't happy on startup or during operation, no power is delivered through to the Hydraulic Control Unit..which has 4 seperate solenoids...one for each brake, along with a DC Motor to drive the fluid through...if this occurs, the system goes "normal".
But, in the earnest of fair play, if something went FUBAR, it'll most likely still be there (stuck solenoid, frozen motor, ect) . It really is a tough system to defeat.
I still say she hammered on the brakes to late, slid through the intersection and got nailed....probalky didn't feel the brakes lock up and pumped them again.
