What heads?
What heads?
The motor I am building is a 350.The cam is a comp cams 270h with comp cam hydralic lifters,For the heads I was going to use some 906 casting vortecs I have.I have been looking through mags and stuff and see lots of complete heads for a couple hundred more or some even less than what I am going to spend having the vortecs properly setup.
I have been looking at pro-topline iron heads. Also I have been thinking about going with some heads that enginekits.com has. They have 64cc chambers, screw in studs,But the intake valve is a 208.Isn't that a little big for a mild street engine? Also there is a company that has some heads that are totaly rebuilt with screw in studs and new valves and everything. For 365.Except they are GM heads.Eventually I want to build a stroker and would like to have a good set of heads to put on it.
So how about.Which heads?

i'd say stick to the vortech's... their badass heads, you won't have to spend that much on em... just have to get a manifold and valve covers that fit... i never really looked into the valvetrain though.. there's an article in a recent super chevy mag i think.
If it was me and I already had a set of good vortecs that just needed the guide post cut down and to be tapped for screw in studs, I would stick with them.
If I didn't already have the heads then I might really consider aftermarket heads.

I agree, since you've already got the heads, just do the work they require, and run them.
The $365 heads are garbage. Don't even go there. They're 882 castings at best, or in his own words "Just like 882s, almost as good"; since 882s are liteally trash, I physically put them in the garbage can and haul them to the street when I get any, then what does that make something that's "almost as good"? Flush it down the toilet to get rid of it?

Hey I thought 882's were junk too but you might want to check out www.chevyhiperformance.com and go to their head flow database. They tested several heads on a flowbench and said that they out flowed 441's and the L98 alum. corvette heads believe it or not. I'm not saying this is right but it's worth a look.
I think that data base is pretty accurate from other numbers I have seen on those heads. But I don't think anybody has ever said the corvette L98s are high flowing heads. As far as the 441s go, I personally think part of their reputation is from their potential to perform and that they came on some higher horsepower motors. The 882s flow a little better due to their open chambers. But those open chambers take away compression. In any case look on that same data base at the vortecs numbers. Big air flow gain across the board.
And also check out Super Chevys Febuary issue. They have dyno numbers comparing vortecs to Torquers. They got a 29 horsepower gain just by bolting the vortecs on.
edit: oops I was thinking 414 heads. I think the 441s are pretty bad too. Just my opinion.
