88&73 valve stem seals

don't remember this being posted before.i've got my heads apart on my 73 400 block, putting new valves and springs on. the heads have the old umbrella rubber type seals. i have new seals that i bought for my 88 chevy truck, they fit the guides but are different for intakes and exhaust. my question is would the newer style seals work and would they do a better job?
