idle question

Just bought an '89 Formula with 305tpi. When I come to a stoplight and stop the idle is at about 1k. After a few seconds it slowly starts dropping in increments until it reaches 600 where it should be. Is this normal? Could it be a problem with the IAC?

Sounds like your throttle is sticking a little.

...or the IAC is gummed and sluggish. You might try cleaning the throttle body to solve both issues, then remove, clean, and lightly lube the IAC pintle rack gear. It only takes a very little contamination to "kill" the IAC operation:

You should also closely inspect the throttle cable for damage or fraying.
