Mixing Synthetic oil ???

Where I live , I can get castrol full synthetic in a 5 quart jug thats $10.00 cheaper than the Mobil 1 . I use Mobile 1 now , but can I change to another brand of synthetic w/o hurting the motor ?? Anyone know??

I don't see it as being any problem. Syntec is probably every bit as good as the Mobil one. I personally don't use synthetics, but i'm not a one brand of oil kind of guy either. I switched between Pennzoil, Valvoline and Exxon Superflo and I don't notice any differences.

Check out my Survey post I put up, cast a vote, and see what a bunch of other third gen owners are using in their cars.

Brent,

That shouldn't be a problem, as long as you never mix two types of synthetic in the same change. The little that might be left from the previous oil change shouldn't cause any trouble, but mixing a polyalphaolefin based synthetic (PAO) with a polyol ester (POE) based synthetic or a dialkylated benzene based synthetic can have serious consequences. I'm not sure about Syntec, but Mobil 1 is a POE based lubricant. I believe that most synthetic engine lubricants are, but all three types can be used in crankcases, so beware.
