What preventative maint. should be done?
What preventative maint. should be done?
Here's the deal! Have an 84 Iron Duke SC. Got her back in May last year. Changed the oil, air filter and belts the day I got her. She's sat from June till about now (fuel delivery problem). The car is in need of some serious maint. Here's what I'll do in the next few weeks: change oil/filter again, new plugs/wires, new dist. cap/rotor, change trans. fluid, change rearend fluid, radiator flush and change power steering fluid. Is there anything else you guys/gals would recommend in the maint. department? Just redone the brakes, so the brake fluid is brand new.
Thanks,
Brandon

84,
Along with the items you've already listed, I would add the following:
Vacuum hose inspection;
PCV valve cleaning/replacement;
EVAP canister filter replacement;
PCV breather filter replacement;
Wheel bearing repack (if not done with the brakes);
Fuel filter replacement;
Check steering/suspension/drive line rubber bushings and lube with silicone oil;
Inspect steering components and lube all fittings (synthetic grease, of course);
Clean all hinges and latches with spray cleaner and a towel, then lightly lube with 20W engine oil (no spray oils!). Don't forget the pivots for the hood and rear hatch struts;
Clean the radiator air side with a garden hose in the reverse direction through the radiator;
Inspect shocks and strut cartridges for leakage and bounce test;
Check/tighten panhard rod and brace mounting bolts;
Clean and lubricate all body rubber seals with silicone;
Test/replace the radiator cap;
Ditto the fuel filler cap;
Lubricate the wiper linkages with 20W;
Clean and lubricate the brake cables with white lithium grease (if not already done with the brake service;
When you flush the cooling system, replace the thermostat;
If you don't know when it was last done, replace the oxygen sensor;
Inspect the coolant port plugs on the underside of the intake manifold. For some reason, all three of mine leaked there, and I had to remove and reseal the plugs. Of course, all of them were installed bass-ackwards in my cars:
