Oil pressure gage fluctuation

Have any of you had trouble with your stock electric oil pressure gage doing strange fluctuations? Mine seems to stick either high or low. Once I saw it jump from 30 psi to 60 psi, when I was cruising at 70 mph. I think the pressure sensor may be sticking. I just don't want to change it if it could be something else. By the way, I just put in a new engine (except the oil pressure sender!); it acted the same way with the old engine that had 140,000 miles. I wish I would have put a new one in. Thanks for the opinions!

Sounds like the diaphram in the sender is on its way out. If you do replace it, go with an AC Delco and save yourself some headaches. I tried 3 different aftermarket ones and none lasted more than a year. The Delco one is on year 7 and doing fine.

morley, what place did you get your ACDelco from? The Autozone by me only had some generic, and the threads were different, i couldnt even screw it in!

my needle bounces around, only a few psi, but it always annoys me.

i have a problem but it moves around depending on how much throttle i have, at idle its just about 60 or a little under, when im accelerating it moves to over 60 and stays. is this normal, mind you i have a new engine with just over 1k on it. no oil problems but a leak.

Just change the sending unit. They go bad all the time. Especially those fine quality OEM AC Delco ones...... I'm sure that all these broken ones you see people talking about were working just fine, until somebody put something else in.

My AC Delco one died in about 88 or so, I put in some kind of cheap aftermarket s****, still seems to work fine. Only has about 200,000 miles on it in the 13 or 14 years since then though (twice the lifetime of the high-quality original one) so it might not be all the way broken in yet though.
