performer intake changes?
I realize some intake manifolds have changed over the years yet retained the name. A friend is giving me a edelbrock performer intake thats probably over 5 or so years old. Its free, so thats good, but i am curious as to whether or not they have made changes in the intake over the years? Thanks

Not totally sure, if it has changed, butthere is a new Performer EPS that is a little different, what's it going on? From what I've read the Performer isn't much better than a stock LG4 intake

It is good for another 20 hp, so take it! You really have to work on headers and exhaust to see any benefit, though.

Car Craft. They did a build up on a 82 LG4 a few years back and it was dyno'd at exactly 20 more HP than the iron LG4 manifold. The Performer RPM was worth another 15 or so. I know someone here has the link to that buildup.

I was gonna take it anyway, cuz i dont even have a stock one. Its going on a 350 i had built. I have headers, high flow cat, and full catback exhaust, so thats taken care of. Just seems that a whole lot of people use performers, so i was wondrin if they've made any improvements. Its aluminum anyway, so its at least lighter than a stock one. Its been painted, but i know its still good. I was wondrin if glass beading it would help. Is it expensive? Does it do anything special? Where would i look to get it done?
Thanks

Don't worry about painting/glass beading(re-painting) it. From pics I can tell the runners are a little different than the EPS manifold and I know the other manifolds(RPM, EPS, Air Gap, GM) have large ridges(bumps) on the bottom of the runners to probably create some turbulence. Stock TBI manifolds have bullseye type ridges, while the others have horizontal(against flow) or (follow flow) ridges.
I will write up a stock TBI vs. preformer carb intake manifold in about 2-3 weeks as my 305 TBI gets closer to 13's.
