Does this mean TROUBLE?

If any of you watch the weather channel ya prolly all know that Rochester NY is having its worst freakin winter...we're talkin sub zero conditions and such and its been like that for about 3 weeks nows. With that being said.... Last night I was leaving from class around 8:00. My car has been parked in the same spot since 9am. I hope in the car start it up flip on the defrosters and go back out to brush the snow off it. Well after about 5 min I get back in and notice my fan isn't on. So I shut the car down, let it sit for a bit then start it back up. This time I turn on my headlights and see that my battery is really really really low (New battery Just put in in August) , and there is still no fan on. But my radio, radar, and my head lights are working fine. So I shut the car off again and take a chance on it starting up....it started up fine just like the past 2 times and this time the battery gauges is perfect, and the stupid fan is on!! Whats happening here? Is it just to dang cold out or is my fan going bye bye, or is there something else wrong that I aint seeing?

Thanks guys!

did u try reving up the engine when the voltage gauge was low to get the alt. working harder? the rear defrost takes quite a load on the charging system. i can put the rear defrost on, the lights and the blower motor on low and the voltage gauge drops to about 10 or so. rev the engine and it picks right up..

Could it be possible that it was just melted ice that got into the fan, and froze if the weather is that cold.. and you kicking the engine on a few times freed it? <-----Don't laugh too hard But don't dismiss this even if it sounds retarded. It HAS happened to me, and I'm only 2 states away from you so I know what you mean about the cold cold weather. It sucks.

Yes, yes. I'm a newbie when it comes to cars.. so flame on.
