Gas In Oil???

Gas In Oil???

I just bought a parts Camaro for $250 dollars. everything is there. THe engine was taken out of the car. and the man I bought it from said when he drained the oil pan there was gasoline in the oil. what could cause this. or could he be talking water???

if it has a mechanical fuel pump, it is probably a bad fuel pump(leaking fuel into crankcase), if electric pump, it probably flooded/leaking injectors/ect.

the odds are it has a bad pump(the rubber diaphram inside is leaking)

Could also be very, very worn out cylinder walls/rings... this happened on my old 305, it was basically shot when i got the car and ran on more oil than gas, but had a good fuel pump. I'm not 100% on this, but since the cylinder with the highest compression was only 60psi, i'm pretty sure this was it.

with my blower it would blow-by fuel into the cylinder under boost. i fixed it by installing a crank-case evacuation kit.

thats probably not your problem, but it can occur from blow-by (bad rings / warped cylinder walls)

now if theres a TON of fuel (mine was just a faint fuel smell in the oil. you couldnt see it.) in the oil then its prolly that stupid fuel pump.
