wont shift
wont shift
I have a post on the tranny board regarding this sichuation, but i'm wondering if maybe you non-trans gurus have run into this one before. 87 trans am, been sitting about 5-6 months, and will not shift out of park. even with mutch force, it will only engage into reverse, and even then it does not click. it is at a slight angle w/ the nose pointed up just a little.anybody, any ideas?

How was the condition of the transmission before? Will it engage between Park, Neutral, and Reverse fine, just won't go into Drive? Have you tried all of the Drive gears? I can't think of what would cause a transmission not to engage into first gear but work fine with others except that it's blown... : /

Sounds like a shifter problem to me.
We have a little cable from the ignition lock to the shfter that locks the shifter in to Park when the keys are out. If that comes off, then you can't move the shift lever. Either that or something happened to your shift cable, rust/corrosion, or otherwise jammed.
