Heads

What kind of heads (brand, size, ect)would really wake my car up but still be cheaper and not really effect gas mileage? My car now has a 350 TPI with a mild cam, custom chip, magnaflow exhaust, high flow cat, and 21lb injectors. Thanks!

305 heads that you port and polish yourself can be had for about $400. Follow the link at the end of my sig and if I can help some more, just let me know

Pull off a valve cover and see which heads you have now.

The good 350 TPI heads have a casting # ending in "083"...

You can wake them up nicely with a good honest home porting job and new 2.02x 1.60 valves.

As long as you don't mind putting the effort into porting your TPI heads, you'll be pleasantly suprised with the results.

Search my past posts on the subject and see Sitting Bull's thread
above. Lot's of good pics.

A set of Trick Flow 23* heads are very economically priced while increasing performance greatly.

Here's a dyno sample with the hyped-up L98 aluminum and Trick Flow.

Here's a dyno sample with the hyped-up L98 aluminum and Trick Flow.
Look closely, the L-98's out performed the Trickflows up to 4500rpm. This is where the TPI motor operates.
If both heads were tested on a TPI motor like the Posters motor the difference in top end would be not near as good for the Trickflows. The smaller port L-98s would make more torque and usable power in the range that a TPI motor runs best in.
Idle to 4500 rpm.
The test is on a more radical tuned motor.
The biggest head is not always the best, For Your Motor.
There is also no mention on what the mods or porting are done
to the L-98's. By the numbers they appear to bo somewhat ported at least.
The Trick flows are nice heads but their larger ports and high lift flow bias favour a more radical tuned motor like the one discribed
in the test.

The money saved on porting your own heads can be applyed to a set of headers, which I don't see in your parts mods list.
The headers are very important to making the improved heads work the way you want, no matter which way you decide to go.

Get some heads with really good mid lift flow, with TPI you have to run a mild cam for computer compatiblilty. Port up some L98's or look into some ProTopline "Vortec" heads. Could even go with GM Vortec's but they are not that good of a deal, they require major mods.

Hey lads...I sold a car the other day to the owner of PRO Topline products here in Auckland NZ!!!

Gingo's, if I ever get to a 350 and don't buy a crate motor, I'll call this bugger up and ask for a HUGE discount.
