ZZ4 too big for LB9 w/ stock heads ????

I purchased a ZZ4 cam like stated above and , someone mentioned that is too big for my stcok heads . I was wondering what provisions I will have to make t install this cam into my car . I already am sure of these things

- new valve spriings
- prom tuneing
new roller lifters ( if needed)

is there anything I should take care of before this badboy goes in my 'lil LB9 ?

thanx

You would definitely need new valve springs. You do not need new lifters. PROM tuning will be a must. A timing set would be a wise addition.

That's not a good cam choice for an otherwise stock 305 TPI. It will slow the car down I'd bet, especially without headers.

When you change the valve springs, replace the retainers and keepers too. A set of real rocker arms would help transfer the cam's profile to the valves fully, unlike the rubber ones that the factory used. For a timing set, get a real roller one, not a $20 "roller" "truck chain" which looks like rollers but isn;t, it's bushings. Those are worse than the stock Link-Belt style chain. A real one should cost around $60.

Well..... I have just got a new intake system comeing to me ..... the headers ( I will probably get used ... for now )

the prom tuneing ...... is going to be an issue ....I still have LOTS of learning to do. I don't want to post a question like ....... " what do I change for this cam" ..... they'd flame me for sure

Thanx a bunch for the input ..... Scog&Dicky has the springs for me ( and retainers , Locks , etc )

I just put in a timeing set a month before I put her away last year
so.... I think I'll keep that for now .

so ... do you think ..... with the new runners and base , and headers , will I still be in rough shape ?

just curious ..... I know this is hard to answer ......I am just looking for an opinion there anyways

Thanx again

I guess that depends on the intake system...

D, i posted to... looks like me and you are runnin around tryin to find info.. .D im gunna go with the SR torquer heads for 305's... they got all the stuff you could need for the cam... im gettin a hi flow base, headers and cat back along with my ported and polished plenum... but i think SR heads with some nice 1.5 rr's will work nice... maybe 1.6 for a little more power
