91 RS 305tbi Problem
My alternator had been down for a month decided to change it today. After I changed it I decided to take it for a ride to charge the battery and make sure all was good. Immediately the car wouldn’t make any power. And started to make mildly loud popping sounds I pulled to the side of the road to look under the hood. Under the hood I could see that the tbi was shooting upward. The inside of my hood had k&n oil on it. I nursed the car home but if I put any acceleration into it, it would pop and shoot more. What the heck is wrong with my car I just got it running again! 91 RS 305 W/ 170k miles.

How many miles on your '91? It sounds like the timing chain has slipped a few teeth and messed up your valve timing. Better look into the timing chain situation before it gives up completely and the valves get intimate with the pistons!
Duhhh? Okay, I see it now. 170 000 miles? Yeah, you're due for a timing chain a few years back!
