valve guide clearance

How do i go about checking how much lift my heads can take, they are off the car, and are bare at the moment. what do i need to do it with, is there a height difference with stock retainers and comp retainers (which ever come with a k-kit) Thanks for any advice.

there are several limiting factors as to how much cam you can run with a given head. port volumn, spring height, seat preasure for a given diameter spring, valve guide clearance. in relation to the springs and clearance you can fit that with soem machining as well as trashingthe pull out studs and using screw ins.
