AC Delete questions

OK, after all the hardware is gone, and I'm left with that box with the AC line fitting just sticking out....what are my options? I thought I remembered hearing about an non AC heater box. Is this correct?

My car is non-AC and it is different than an AC car. My friend has an 84 project Z28 and he wanted to delete the whole box and everything. He cut it all out and made sheetmetal panels to cover the holes. Probably the easiest and cheapest thing to do, aside from leaving the whole mess in there of course!

Those boxes are hard to come by. I got one off Ebay for 40 bucks. Not bad. I would cover up the holes with sheetmetal but then I wouldn't have a blower fan or heat.

Cant you remove just the AC part and leave the heater core and blower motor though. I thought you could.

Yeah you can remove the evaporator but you'd still have that big AC box there taking up space. You need something to mount the blower motor and make the electrical connections to it and the resistor pack.

yeah, you could jsut leave all that in there without the AC, but the whole point is to clean up the engine bay on my NON daily driver, so I don't wan't to just leave it in there without the AC connection. I wan't to get rid of the box and everything, but of course, I'm not quite ready to completely get rid of the fan/blower.

Don't know about where you are, but I just went down to the local wrecker and bought the non-ac heater box and blower for $15.00 CDN. Needed to be painted but otherwise good shape, works great. There was 2 or 3 more at the first wrecker I stopped at. Currently having fun figuring out which wires I can rip out (from AC).

Aww, it can't get that cold in NC can it? Who needs a heater!?! I suppose finding a non AC box is your only hope.

I just cut the box off right after the blower motor. From there I used some sheet metal to fab a new , thinner inlet track for the air from the blower motor. Painted it to match and I was done I think it took me about 3 hours to get the new box to look the way I wanted it to. Use some foam weather stripping to seal it to the fire wall. Good luck.
