heads

the casting numbers are 462-624 friend said they would be good heads for my motor but i'm not sure if he knows what hes talknig about. they would be going on a 305. motor has a newer cam with a .465 lift, weiend intake manifold, and edelbrock 600 cmf carb. thanks for any input

those heads are

75-86...350/400......76cc chamber, 1.72/1.5, 1.94/1.5 or 2.02/1.6 valve

First off they would kill the compression, it would be like 8:1, if that, and if memory serves me right those are old smogger heads, and not very performancey, so to say.

You should look for some 14101081, they are 305 58 cc chambers, ported well they work pretty good, they are the newer style centerbolt heads.

there are some other 305 older style heads that work well, but i cant recall the casting numbers for them

I can't think of any one worse casting that you could possibly put on a 305. Your compression would end up somewhere in the 7s, and you wouldn't gain any benefits like better flow over any other head, and that particular casting is prone to cracking.

That was the casting responsible for 170 HP 350s and 180 HP 400s in the 70s.

Next time this individual gives you parts advice, nod approvingly, then forget whatever he said. Sounds like he's not worth arguing with.

For cheap junkyard heads for a 305, the 081 is about the best you can do.

Under the valve covers.

For '86-older intake style, the 416's are also good castings.
