did this cause my gasket to blow
did this cause my gasket to blow
while back i was havin trouble tuning in my carb and i had low vaccum readings which with the cam i got that is to be expected. but some peeps on here said that was too low that it sounded like a bad vaccum leak somewhere like intake or carb gasket. they said take starter fluid spray it around them and if the motor revs up then its got a leak. well i did and i didnt here the motor rev up any. so i assumed its ok. well here it is a couple of months later and the intake gasket blew tonight. do u think maybe it had been leakin and it finally blew or was this just one of thoses things? im thinkin the bolts just backed out a lil. but i figured id ask im gonna fix it tom. and i was wondering if i will be tuning this thing all over again, if it was leakin in the first place.
thanks
p.s. sucks thats just 3 days ago i changed my oil to synthetic. it couldnt have blown when i had old oil in it already.

sometimes a vac leak can not be detected from outside the engine. I too had really low vacuum and checked for leaks just like you did. I found none I new I had a vacuum leak somewhere from the erratic needle on the vacuum guage. I changed the intake gaskets and havent had a problem since and gained 4" of mercury on the vac guage with a steady vac guage needle. You probably had a vacuum leak all along and missed or just didnt detect it. I went from Felpro gasket to Victor Reinz from NAPA to tell you the truth I like the construction of the Victor Reinz Gaskets myself.
