Couple more questions on ditching the computer and going to carb...

I am completely ditching my TPI and going to run everything without a computer. I have a few questions though.

-Will the gauges in the dash work without the computer??

-I have a 9.5" ACT 2600 lockup stall converter. Since I am ditching the computer, I will obviously lose the lockup. Will this hold back any power to the rear wheels, or does lockup only affect gas mileage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't think any of the dash gauges read through the computer so they should all still work as long as your carefull on which wires you unhook/cut, as you said the torque converter won't lock up without the computer, this is bad, it creates ALOT of heat in the tranny (BAD), you could always get the kit from summit or jegs that will lock up the converter automaticly or you could wire it with a switch and do it manually.

Yep, guages will work.

The TC will work fine as well, but you have to hook up a pressure switch in the tranny and wire it with power.

Is this a good Idea?

Yes. Don't cut any wires, no point in sodomizing stuff unnecessarily, remove the harness carefully and keep it for future whatever or sell it to someone that already sodmized theirs.

Get a switch for the TCC.

Well, I don't really want to spend 130 bucks on a lockup control switch. My car originally had an LG4 motor in it. I still have the old computer and harness. Can I just hook up the computer for the sole purpose of controlling the converter? If so, what all do I need to hook up to the harness? Thanks for the replies.

the computer read info. from the carb. (TPS) to determine when to engauge the converter. without the CC-Carb I don't think it will know when to engauge.

I thought that the only thing that determined whether or not the converter locks up was vehicle speed. If this is the case, then it would work because there is a speed sensor on the back of the speedo, and with the dash hooked up to the computer then it should work, right? Thanks.

Does the lockup and all this apply to a manual tranny too, such as a T5?

No, a manual tranny doesn't have a tourque convertor so a lockup switch is not needed.

you could run non-lockup but if you do that you want to run a good tranny cooler b/c of all that heat...... but if i were u i would ditch the 700 and go with a th-350.
