try search i think it works again... there should be a heat sensing switch in your passanger side head towards that back that controls when the fans turn on by determining coolant temp

Check this picture. You'll see a "BEULER" relay right next to the battery; that's my aftermarket fan relay. To the immediate right, you'll see the top of a relay. That's the fan relay for a single-fan setup; yours might be dual fans since it's an '89. Either way, something should be down there by the battery. The relay switches when it receives a grounding signal from the ECM, and that turns the fan on. To see if your fans work, just unplug the harness that plugs into the relay and jump the two large-diameter wires together. I think they're orange and black/red. If that works, then you know your relay is bad.

I hooked the two wires too the battery already and my fan worked so I know it must be the relay or something of that sort. However the fan did smoke after 30 seconds or so. I know 12v is not enough to fry a fan motor so I think it is bad. Maybe Im wrong? I also dont recall Anykind of relay being down there from when I cut the wires. I will double check though. Probably my eyes going bad on me.

Wait a minute I do recall an accessory unit with a bunch of wires coming out of it next to the battery and radiator. Its a tiny box with a screw sticking out of it that has 4 or 5 wires attached for different accessories. I remember this because my car flat stalled at 60mph on the interstate because one of those wires was to thin and melted. I luckily always carry wire for some reason. Is that it or something else. DaMMMM Im not car smart at all!

Ok I looked last night and there was nothing there but I did find a relay at the passenger side corner of the firewall and the driver side. The passenger side one is for the Heater Blower if Im not mistaking. So Im guessing the other on is the relay?? anyone?

It's hard to say without seeing it. If you don't have a service manual for your car with wiring diagrams, probably the next best thing to do would be to trace the wires from your fans to the relay they correspond to. That's how I figured out where 90% of my wiring is.

On my 87 Z-28 with dual fans, there was one relay on the pass side support beside the radiator & the other was in front of the battery, just behind the headlight.

I tried to do that the best I could but unfortunantly its really tought because all my wires were redone and are run mainstream down one tube for a long stint then split off 4 different ways. (all in tubing, so I dont know what wires are where) I followed the tubes and thats what led me to the drivers side firewall up by the driveshaft. I didnt think to check behind the headlight like 89RSPower! said though. I will do that tonight. Im glad you guys are patient

The relays are on the driver side, on the firewall. There is a bracket with 3 relays on them. The one closest to the door is the secondary fan. The one next to it is the primary fan, I believe. The one next to it is the fuel pump relay...I could be wrong on that.

It'll be one relay outside the bracket, and the other 2 are inside the bracket.

Sorry I should have said I only have the single fan setup. So that should be the only one over there then. The guy at Napa showed me the part and thats what it looked like but I didnt want to make some huge mistake pulling the wrong piece out. Thanx

Ok, I busted out the Chiltons and was in amazement when it said that my car 88-90 5.0 TBI's didnt have a coolant fan relay switch. Or at least it didnt show one. but it did for all the other cars. Thats weird. Is their any explanation for that? Now Im really confused.

Whats the coolant sensor at the front of the block? That wouldnt be my problem would it?
