How do u wire a horn to a Grant steering wheel?!!?
hi all, i was just curious about this. it kinda a pain in the *** when someone cuts you off and you cant honk at them. I have a Grant GT steering wheel, and when i take it off, all there is is a yellow wire connected to a prong on the wheel, and there is a bare prong, nothing on it. And i dont think the yellow wire is connected to anything in the steering column. but i could be wrong.. i assume that the prong with nothing on it is a ground?? and the yellow woould be power.... i diont know.

If I recall correctly, the yellow wire has to be grounded for the horn to function. The horn button should ground itself to the steering shaft, and when you press the button it should make contact with the plate that the yellow wire is attached to.
If I were you, I'd try touching the yellow wire to a ground and see what happens. You may have to make a jumper wire from the other, bare prong to a ground somewhere on the steering shaft. My Grant wheel wasn't designed this way, but yours might be.
The horn could also be shot, or it might not be connected properly. It's attached to the driver's side fender underneath the hood. You might want to check that.

ok you remember how on your stock wheel there was a spring loaded piece that had a wire though it... that was the horn mechanism... what it does it when you push the button... the wire is pushed down through the spring and grounds out in the column and causes the horn to activate... you will need to follow the instructions exactly to get it to work... mine has worked fine since i did mine 2 months ago... its not hard... but its confusing w/o instructions... maybe you can find them on grants website or something...

86's info is right on.. should be a single wire to the horn button and the button itself is grounded to the column with the wire connected and button installed correctly it will work, but as he said you could have a problem with the horn it self, if everything is hooked up right and you touch the wire to anything metal inside the column it should work.. otherwise you have a wiring problem or a bad horn

ok this is what i found out last night...
i took the wheel off, and there was a yellow wire that went into a hole in the hub. the wire had a spring on it and a little plastic broken piece, (probably to keep the wire in the hub) and i am pretty sure that it does ground on the hub when you push the horn button.
I also know that my horn does work because i stuck one of those wire tester light up things in the hole, and touched the hub at the same time and it went off.. .. tghe wheel is really ugly so mayby ill just buy a new one.
anyone have a used one i could buy?

yep thats the right wire... if u dont like the wheel you could always get a new 1 but if you just want a working horn for now you can buy a replacement button for $5-10 most speed shops or parts stores that sell grant products should be able to order you one.

I bought a new one from Summit Racing for $100. It's not made of that cheap foam, either... it's leather-wrapped.
