Procedure for setting the valve springs
There is an old school way of setting valves, Put the engine on #1 TDC (firing), You torque #1 intake and exhaust, & others, Then you crank the engine to #6 TDC and adjust. What are the other intake and exhaust valves you adjust at #1 then #6.
Thanks

Don't know which school that was, but it must be real old.
There is a valve adjusting sequence for adjusting valves on a
chev v8, but I don't feel like looking it up right now.
(Involves turning the motor to 4 crank positions and adjusting certain valves, at each position in a said order.)
There is an easy way to do this. that you can always
remember.
Turn the motor over with the starter ( disable the spark) till the intake valve on a cylinder *just closes* (on seat). Adjust the exhaust valve on that cylinder.
Now turn the motor over till the exhaust valve *just starts to open*, adjust the intake valve for that cylinder.
Repeat as nessessary.....
Intake closes, adjust the exhaust.
Exhaust opens adjust the intake.
What could be easier

With the engine in the # 1 firing position, (#1 top dead center, timing pointer at "0", both valves closed) Adjust these valves:
Exhaust : 1, 3, 4, 8
Intake : 1, 2, 5, 7
Turn the motor 1 revolution and adjust:
Exhaust : 2, 5, 6, 7
Intake : 3, 4, 6, 8

Sorry, After reading my topic line, I could have very well been asking how to check installed heights, or just how to put the darn things on.

This is assuming that you are using hydralic lifters and the camshaft isn't from the bottom of the page.
