Ok Ladies and Gents,
I have a growing problem. My #7 cyl is makin a click/tap/whatever sound. I am certain it is coming from the head and not from anyplace else. Do I fix it by adjusting the the rockers? Or is it time for an overhaul? Either way I dont mind doing either one. Workin on this car seems to be a new hobby....lol I would rather just it be an adjustment.
305 TBI, 700R4, 101,000 miles on her...
Thanks in advance....

depends on what the noise is on how you fix it, might be rocker arm, exhaust leak, worn part, like rocker ball. could be bent push rod. why don't you pull valve cover and take a look, or take a look and then pull the valve cover.

Mine was doing the same thing you say, it kept gettin louder and louder. Mine was an exhaust leak. When I gunned the engine from inside the bay I could see a little smoke blow from around the pass side header.

NO.
Timing isn't the root cause of all evil. It doesn't just jump off by itself. And it doesn't just affect one cylinder.
People always seem in such a hurry to blame everything that goes wrong with their car on "timing". Give it a rest, apply some logic here.
Check for an exhaust leak first. Stick a piece of heater hose in your ear (!!) and probe around with the other end of it, like a stethoscope. Once you find what's actually ticking, then you can repair it; just guessing at what it is and randomly shotgunning parts, or twiddling with adjustments that aren't misadjusted and that you don't understand, or "tearing it apart", will get you nowhere.
