I don't see what the big deal with doing that with the motor in the car is.... that sure seems like the hard way.
Take the motor out. It takes like 5 minutes. All you have to do is drill the 3 rivets out; first you have to drill about a ½" hole in front of 2 of them. Then the motor just falls out, and you can work on it where you can see what you're doing without trashing your hands and tearing all the skin off of them.
When you put it back in, use sheet-metal screws and Tinnerman clips, DO NOT try to use bolts and nuts, they WILL back off.

I can't remove the rivets because I have a garage with no power and it would take a 500ft extension cord
I have no cordless tools and I don't know anybodys who I could borrow
Now what?

If my memory is correct, you might be able to get in with bent-nose pliers. If that isn't an option, you might also be able to slip a screwdriver in and gently pry the tab away from the motor end cap, but I'd be very careful of that method with cold plastic.
If it gets really bad, you can still drill the rivets (which you would have to do with a replacement anyway). I'd suggest using the 1/4" peel rivets instead of SM screws or bolts (even with LocTite), since I've had bad luck with anything but the rivets. That's why the body shops and dealer service departments have the big riveters.
You can get a large capacity riveter WITH a dsupply of rivets for about $20 if you shop around.

Yeah, buy a cordless drill if thats the only option. It will still be cheaper than taking it to a shop. And then you'll have it next time you need it.
Welll this afternoon I had a shop install a new motor. It only ran me $45 plus the part that I had already bought and he did a great job using all of the correct rivets to install the new motor...
