Mounting engine compartment light?
Mounting engine compartment light?
Earlier today..
I lifted up my hood.. and somehow my engine compartment light got snagged on something and was pulled off...
It appears that two bolts held it inplace (grounded?), but I have no clue where they went when it was ripped off..
Does anyone know what is used to secure the light to the underside of the hood? I'd like to fix this asap..
Thanks

Just get two self drilling screws and put it up. The screws contact the light housing making a ground so they need to be mounted on metal,
Got the light reattached.. thanks!
But now I have another problem..
Before, the light would automatically come on when the hood was lifted up and would automatically shut off as the hood came down..
Now, the light is staying on constantly.. whether the hood is up or down.. any idea what's wrong? Is there a sensor somewhere along the line that could have been damaged? How does the light read whether the hood is in the lifted or shut position?
Right now I have the plug disconnected so my battery doesn't die from it..
Thanks again

AFAIK...
THere's a mercury switch somewhere along the line. It may even be in the light fixture...I don't know, my T/A doesn't have one for some reason (yet).
So, if it's in the fixture, and you mounted it in a different orientation, like 90 degrees offset, it will always be on. Or if you put it in a different place, like not on the hood, so it's not moving with the hood, and shutting off. I'd try removing it again, and playing withit to find the right way to mount it, or out it back the way it was, if you purposely changed it to make it look better
Hope that does it for ya

Well that's just great.. I know I mounted it in the correct position, however the metal housing got a little tweaked when it was ripped off.. so there must be some damage..
I'll probably just go ahead and leave the light un-connected, and reconnect it when I need to use it.. it's no biggy.. just wish it had been an easier fix..
Thanks guys

I believe the mercury switch is in the hood light itself. But you could always put in a simple on/off toggle switch. I may do this myself, as there's times when I'm under the hood for extended periods and I don't like taking out the bulb...I end up losing it or breaking it.
