Valvetrain ticking.....adjusting roller rocker question...
Ok guys, I've finished my cam and head swap but I've got a problem with adjusting the rockers, they are comp Pro magnum 1.55. I adjusted them like the instructions say, tighten the nut while spinning the pushrod until you feel resistance, then go 1/2 turn more. The problem is after the 1/2 turn I can still turn them by hand, it is not even that difficult. Maybe my definition of resistance is different than thiers but I don't think you should still be able to spin the pushrods after the 1/2 turn. I read about adjusting them while the engine is running but that seems like a mess. I'm thinking of just trying 3/4 or 1 turn and seeing what happens. Any thoughts or tips let me know.
Thanks
Thanks
Troy,
If the lifters are new, they are probably dry unless you soaked them in oil. Even then, you could have air in the plunger cavity. This will allow the plunger to depress up to .160", so the half turn lash preload would not be taking up all the slack.
I'd suggest trying to prime the engine with oil until you get some pushrod flow. That shoudl fill the lifters enough to allow a reasonable static adjustment. My personal preference is to adjust them hot and running.

This is actuctually the second time I've adjusted them. Vader, you're right about them having air in them the first time, even though I soaked them. The motor was warm and primed before the last time I adjusted them also. I think I'm going to keep tightening them down 1/4 turn at a time until they quiet down. Thanks for all the great advice guys.
