Alright all you HEADER peoples!
Man, I just finished installing my hooker shorty headers on my 86 IROC after dropping the starter twice and the PS Pump but after 8 hours, I was finished and ready to drive it to the muffler shop for the custom y-pipe to be made. The thing is, the car idles real lowRPM for 3 seconds and then the motor revs to 3000RPM and just shuts off. The computer says "CODE 34" MAP (Manifold Intake Pressure), right? So what do I have to do to make the car drive 20miles to the shop. Should I part cap the shorties to give the engine back pressure or should I just say "&%#$ it" and trailer the car to the shop?
Thanks guys
Ben

Open headers will not affect how computer works in any way shape, or form. You had to have messed something up while you were working on it. Left something unplugged. Made a connection loose. Left a wire on a header tube. Etc.
Make sure everything is on, and everything is set correctly. Also, make sure you rememeber to resest the ECM by disconnecting power for a minute. It'll relearn IAC function and such quicker if you just reset it.

Check the vacuum hose that goes to the MAP sensor. I pulled the hose out of mine once when I was changing the dist. cap. That would be my guess.
Good luck,
Chris

On another note... How much was the shop going to charge you for your y-pipe? Are you going with a 3" y? Is it a bolt on flange (at the cat) or is it a slip on?
Thanks.

Another note: if you are running the stock computer, then you do not have a map sensor. You only have a MAF.
Make sure that you plugged in the MAF sensor when you replaced air intake bellows. It sounds as if it isn't plugged in or something.

Great help guys.....Thanks,
The shop is going to make the Y as big as they can fit. It is a three bolt collector flange. Right, I do not have a MAP sensor, those only came on 90-92? So I am going to check to make sure everything is plugged in and not burnt and then reset the computer. Can anyone show me where the MAF is/that vacuum? I understand with pictures a lot better....you know.
I knew people would know-:hail:
