what cleaner is best to clean hard engine parts?

what cleaner is best to clean hard engine parts?

such as my crank, rods, etc.

i tore my 350 down, and now i need to clean it before i can start the rebuilding process

oh yeah, i know for the block to use warm soapy water, after coating the cylinders with a rust inhibitor oil

for parts like that i use a dish washer, hot water and soap. for the block and other assorted large parts i use preasure washer and hot water. i use castorl super clean in my parts washer.

Carb cleaner will get those parts looking like the just came off the shelf. Paint stripper does the exact same (I've used both). So if you want to get those parts looking brand new use that.

caustic acid at 190* works best for me.


another words take it to a machine shop, let them run it thru there hot tank for a half hour, only cost about $20


remember to take all your galley plugs out before washing

You know that is about the best idea for large parts like block/heads/intake and anything without plastic on it. Often machine shops are good about that type of stuff.

Plastic can be washed in the tank they wash aluminum parts in..its detergent based and about 140*

If you do wash the block in the caustic tank your going to have to replace the cam bearings, which you should anyways when cleaning just for the fact that you will loosen up some crap in the oil galleys and you want it to come out
