The 500 to 1,000 miles that are put on the car are between may and october, I may only drive 2 weeks total so it sits all winter i start it twice and thenit may sit the hole month of june and july. I was wondering if I should change it in may and then again in october? or just in may? thanks alot

I'd think once, at the start of the season of usage, ought to do it.

sort of like my tractor, once at the start of spring and again around the 4th of july, mobil 1 and a wix filter. 37 years old and never a problem with the engine.

I pretty much do the same as the others. I change the oil in the spring prior to the !driving! season. Though the tractor gets it twice a year (spring/fall) as I use it to plow that white krap that keeps falling from the sky .

Once a year is in your case enough,at least if this Mobil1 is synthetic oil.
I have to warn you though,NOT to start the car once in a while.
There will be a lot of moisture built up inside the engine, eventual washing of the oil, unless you drive the car at least 15-20 miles,so it will be completely warmed up.

Actually when you store a car you should start it once in a while. The only thing you DON'T want to do is start it and run it for 5 minutes. Take it out of the garage, and let it run until it gets up to operating temperatures. Check your gauge and turn on the heater, and make sure the air coming out of the vents is hot. I typically start mine in the winter once a week, and let it run for 20 minutes.

By measuring the temp. of the heater, you'll get water temp.
Oil takes much, much more time to reach the point where all the moisture will evaporated.
A cold V-8 will buit up a lot of H2O during the warm up period, that will cause a lot of rust(related) problems over time.
Again don't underestimate the oil washing away problems!!
So starting a stored engine and let it idle for up to 15 minutes will do a lot of harm inside the engine, you HAVE to drive it for many miles, but again why storing a car after all?
But hey, whatever you want it's your car(and money!!)

Ever seen car museums doing what you suggest?

Store an engine, put new(synthetic)oil in,close inlet(aircleaner) and outlet(exhaust) with some oiled cotton and the engine will be fine even after years with no use!

I change my oil in the spring. Amsoil is what I put in. A bit of overkill considering last year I only put 1K miles on the car. I'm just preparing for the year I actually put some decent miles on the car. Hopefully this year.

Once a year should be plenty. I must be bass-ackwards, since I change mine at the end of the season and just before storage, mainly to keep acidic oil out of the static engine. Any acquired moisture from winter startups and aspiration is quickly dispelled on the first good run of the spring (which should be soon - hopefully).

Take it from a guy who has a Firehawk w/1,350 miles

Change it right as you put it up for winter and change it again in the spring before driving it, filter too.

When you start it during storage you only need to do it once a month and when you do either get it to full operating temp and rev it a little and take it around the block or DON'T START IT! By just starting it and letting it get to temp then shutting it off, you are not buring off all the water that collected in the exahaust and it will build up and rust your exhaust!

Yup, either start it for a nice while and let it run/drive it, or don't start it at all.

I see no need to do it in the fall and the spring. Mobil 1 won't get acidic like dyno oil, so there's no benefit to having new oil in the crankcase all winter.

I'm not an advocate for winter startings. Startup causes more wear on a motor than anything else, so rather than start it a few times a winter just so it can warm up, I leave it alone until I'm ready to use it again in the spring.
