? about octane boost

i unpluged my knock sensor and added some octane boost and my car seemed to me anyway to have more power what does this mean if it is faster that way? can long term use of octane boost hurt the car?

i'd plug the knock senser back in, either wrap it with tefelon tape or run a resister, adjust the timing, or run higher octane fuel, unless you're maxed out now. what engine and compression?
