Just put a socket on wrench on it, whichever you're using, and turn it really quickly to "break" it loose. Don't torque them down much when you put them in, and anti seize would help next time!

u can try some penitrating lube like wd 40 but what i would do is just put a beaker bar on there and push with that and if that doesent work then just whack the wrench with a hammer.

Sometimes they come out easier when eng is hot.
Penetrating oil, if allowed to soak overnight, usually works pretty well.

Tapered seat plugs really should be installed with a light coating of anti seize compound on the threads and seats. This is imperative on aluminmum heads, where fusion is so prevalent.

I prefer Champion plugs, or AC/Delco platinum plugs with eth SS body. Regular AC/Delco plugs tend to seize even more, since there is no plating on the plug body. They can rust up pretty badly:

anyway ill guess ill try pentrating oil. cause i tried to hit it with a hammer to with no luck.

I would make the engine hot but i can't get the damn thing started. that is why im changing the plugs.

Call #1 good for now and change the other 7 plugs. If you can get it running on 7 cyls, it will heat up. Then try #1 again.

Once you get #1 replaced, don't install them like that again!! hehehe:lala:

take the correct size socket, put it on the ratchet and then put a long pipe on the ratchet. hold the end of it and that should give you the proper power to torque it off, thats how i get off head bolts and anything thats on reallll tight.

Do what ZR1 suggested. Hit it with a quick blast of WD 40 and let it sit for about five minutes. Spray it with some more WD 40 and try to take it off. I use a pipe as my breaker bar as well. Put your socket and wrench on there, then the pipe on the wrench to give you a lot of leverage. Just use the WD-40. I've never heard of a spark plug snapping off inside the head, but you certainly don't want it to happen! Matt

I've snapped a couple of plugs off. Had to remove the head to drill and re-tap the holes again.
Trust me, you don't want to do that.

Let the penetrating oil do its' thing.
The stuff will work wonders, but it takes time.

Yea, use alot of WD40 and get the engine warm after the oil has a chance to seep in. Thats how i got the coolant plug out of my 350 to put in a fan switch, and its been there for almost 24 years and it came out like that.

And yea, use a long breaker bar, but don't jerk it or it will break. Just move it slowly, no jerking it!!

i would get it warm. But i can't get the damn pos started because the plugs are all covered in gas. so that is why im trying to take them out so i can get new ones in there to get it started?

how long does gas usually take to dry off plugs in an engine?

sounds like the person who put them in may have cross threaded the plug on you. maybe you could try heating the head with a torch after putting some penetrating oil on it. Good luck though

The pipe attached to the rachet handle works great. I usually use a 1" diameter pipe thats about 12" long. It gives you LOTS of extra torqe so you can take it slow and not break anything. Though most of my plugs came out without a fight. The hardest part is getting the damn socket on there in the first place when you get towards the back of the engine. Thats a PITA on my TPI.

Yeah, that'll teach you to use anti seize.

The fuel-fouled plug may never dry ubtil it is hot. You could do as previously suggested, and start the engine on the remaining new plugs, then hope for the best. Heat and penetrating oil (and a pair of leather gloves to save your skin from the heat) may be your best allies.

ok i used alot of wd40 and i half of the spark plug broke off. But the nut part is still on there so it is ok. What is stonger than wd40 that can loosen this thing up? Plus i tried to use a breaker bar with no luck. im getting so annoyed at this.

any more ideas?

I'd almost suggest a nice hot torch, but I don't know how you could get it at the right angle, and more importantly, not sure you want to do that to a gas-soaked sparkplug.

Try PB Blaster. It makes WD40 look wussy.

A lot of people around here like PB Blaster penetrating oil.

Most any other penetrating oil is better than WD-40.
Don't get me wrong, WD-40 is usefull for a lot of stuff, but it's not the best penetrating oil around.

Have ya changed the other plugs yet?
Get it started?

Did you get the plug out.
Sometimes try tightening it slightly first then try to take it out.

They just had alot of carbon on the them..so at least they are not rusted in or fused because of aluminum heads.
Tommorrow i have to try and get it started...hoperfully i can drive it tommorrow.

I sick of driving my moms car and all these cars getting on my a$$ or getting passed. With the camaro around everybody shows respect.

I'm just thinking, you're spark plugs should never be that hard to take out, unless they've never been changed, or were over torqued. Make sure you use the right torque specs when u put the new ones in.

Never do this...

Be sure you are applying force in the right direction. I was once changing plugs on a '73 GMC van. After changing all the plugs on the passenger side, I switched to the driver side. After installing the #8 plug I forgot to change the direction on my ratchet before beginning to 'remove' the #1 plug. I began to apply force with the help of a breaker bar but the plug wouldn't budge. I continued to pull until finally the plug broke off inside the head!!! It was then that I realized what I had done. That van ran on seven pistons for the rest of its life. Just shows what happens when you're in a hurry to get the job done and over look the simplest of details.

Yup. Now I ALWAYS check my ratchet before removing or torquing anything.
