How much should it cost me to get these heads to work on my new motor???
I want to know what the machining should cost me to get my Vortec heads ready for my 355.
Heres what I need done:
3 or 5 angle valve job
New springs good for over .500 lift ( and whatever else is needed to install the springs properly.)
valve seals
These heads have only about 15k miles on them...they have been milled to 57cc. They don't need to be tanked or anything...just freshened up and new valve springs so I don't ruin the heads with the cam that's going in it.
I figured that I'd do the valve job while I'm at it... apparantly this increses flow significantly with these heads. I'm pretty sure I read that the 5 angle is the best for these heads.

I ported and polished them myself and took the parts and and heads in and asked how much for 3 angle valve job and replace any guides needed. Got the valves and springs at www.enginekits.com for cheap. All done I had 4 guides replaced valve seats reground and the valves checked and angled to seat the heads. Parts and machine work was under 250.00 for all

I just paid $132 to have a 3-angle valve job done on the 396 heads. He also tanked them (before I did the porting work), checked all the valve springs (even though they were new Comp springs I brought in), measured each valve for installed height, shimmed, assembled, etc. No guides needed replacing.
He also charged $32 to machine the guides for positive seals, and $16 for the seals. $185 all said & done (plus what I paid for the springs, of course).
I might have gotten a little better pricing because we're fellow racers, but he didn't indicate anything special about the prices he was offering.
