Best way to deal with a rear main leak without changing the gasket?
I just put synthetic oil in my car today and now there's a rear main leak, pretty bad. This motor only has 8k on it and when I put it in, I didn't have any way of turning the motor upside down so I could install the oil pan gasket. result= one leaky SOB. I cleaned it as best I could and then put gobs of RTV on it and it sealed up pretty good. It doesn't leak when the car is NOT running, only when I run it...and it's making my clutch slip. If I run it hard...the the torque seems to tweak the rubber gasket or something and make it leak.
What should I do? I bought the most Oil resistant sealant I could find ( Ulta Blue Permatex) and I am going to clean it with brake cleaner and try to get a clean seal. i am going to jack up the raer of the car so that the oil is sent forward, to get the spot as clean as possible. Then let it dry for a few hours.
I also have a new poly trans mount that I think should help a bit with the torquing prob. The car has motor mounts that are only 10k old.
Any other Ideas? Is there any special sealant just for this problem?

Did a search....
I did a search and there are guys who said that they could change thier rear main seal on thier lunch hour.
I have a 5 speed car. If I try to change the seal....whcih is definately leaking do I have to unbolt the bell housing and slide the trans back?? What if the seal is laking where the rubber meets the gasket???
